Bluesky Social - Our newest integration
July 12, 2026 · Rich Costello
When I created the IChingPortal back in 2018, one of the first APIs I integrated was Twitter. That was back when it was free and popping with diverse content from all angles. It was a thriving ecosystem of social content. The eclectic content that would be returned from each hexagram's keywords was both entertaining and interesting. Eventually, they put rate limits on it and then discontinued it. When it became X.com, they returned the API, but the pricing on it now is way too cost-prohibitive.
The current Bluesky Social API integration into the IChingPortal is reminiscent of the good old days of Twitter. Yes, Bluesky may lean to the left, but overall its content is very eclectic and all over the map (in a good way!). From left-leaning politics to the literary and poetic, as well as diverse musings on life and culture, the Bluesky social integration works well on this platform. It's ancient wisdom combined with the nonstop present stream of the social media feed. Kind of like that Reese's commercial back in the day—who knew!
It’s similar to the I Ching Insight daily news, where the posts put a spotlight on the present, but the content comes from the general, diverse, and eclectic user base that makes up Bluesky Social. It makes for some entertaining synchronicity. So give it a try. Do a coin toss or select a specific hexagram from the overview page. Bluesky and the I Ching can give you new insight on the world.
Hopefully, this is the first of many social integrations to come. Currently, many of these other platforms are either too cost-prohibitive to access or are completely walled off from any outside integrations. But that could always change in the future. Shout out to Jack Dorsey and the Bluesky team for creating an open API that allows platforms like this to integrate and provide the public with a different perspective on the world.
